World Cup
As some of you may remember, a couple of weeks ago there was the so-called World Cup, a little tournament in an obscure niche sport known as soccer that came and went without many people taking notice. But not in Mexico, oh no. Lucky for us, we had the chance to watch game after game at our favorite local bar, the Fritz. Alex became an avid Mexico supporter after their matchup with Brazil, and then an equally avid Netherlands hater after Robben’s shameful antics that bumped Mexico from the tournament. Tom was a Germany fan all the way, and that worked out pretty well for him.
To get our readers in the mood, here’s the Mexican national soccer anthem (as we know it). This nifty bit of Corona advertising played during every single commercial break, sometimes twice in a row. Soon enough, we were wholeheartedly singing along. We hope that you will be too.
Our local grocery store’s mascot, a diehard Mexico fan. After the Cup ended, they took his clothes off…and he looks strangely naked.
We watched most of the games at Fritz, where our new friend Diego kept us happy with free blu-blu.
The final was a nerve wracking experience for this German.
But lo and behold…
VICTORY FOR DEUTSCHLAND!
Even Alex was a Germany fan by the end of the game.
Guard Dogs and Sea Dogs
If there’s one kind of animal that we’ve encountered over and over during our trip and especially in Mexico, it’s got to be dogs. Some of them friendly, some of them savage and other’s popping up in places you wouldn’t expect them.
We almost made the mistake of trying to pet this one.
And this one tried to eat us every single time we passed by on the way to the grocery store.
Other dogs are not bred to be killers, and instead are brought up as first class navigators of the sea.

Bits and Pieces
Everything that we were unable to neatly categorize ended up here. We spent many an afternoon wandering the streets of La Paz trying to accomplish things that were never actually accomplished, such as trying to find a bike store, or that really good restaurant that we heard about. Along the way, we stumbled across a few interesting corners of the city.
Pension California, where we spent our first and last nights in La Paz. A funky old building painted yellow and blue and covered with strange artwork. Including a dead turtle-turned-wall hanging.
Vibrant murals tucked amongst the winding streets of the city.
Tom looks confused because he just tried to say squirrel. Unsuccessfully.

Es wurde endlich Zeit, dass ihr euch wieder auf den Weg gemacht habt. Ohne eure regelmäßigen Erlebnisberichte von euren Touretappen, wurde das Internet langsam langweilig. Ich hoffe, ihr schreibt jetzt wieder öfter von euren adventures von unterwegs. Gute Fahrt und beim Abbiegen immer schön das Händchen heraushalten.

Hallo Alex,hallo Tom,gern geben wir Euch unsere Favoriten für Mexico City weiter. Obwohl wir nur vier Tage in der Stadt waren, haben wir uns die Pyramiden von Teotihuacan,etwa 60 km entfernt, angesehen.Eine Stadtrundfahrt mit den roten Bussen lohnt immer,da bekommt ihr schon mal erste Eindrücke.Desweiteren waren wir an der Basilika von Guadelupe,besonders am Sonntag zum Gottesdienst sehr sehenswert. Das Antropologische Museum und den Zocalo,der Hauptplatz der Stadt, sollte man sich vornehmen.Gewohnt haben wir in der Zona Rosa,ohne das wir es wußten, daß vornehmere Viertel,mit viel Gastronomie.In einer Zufahrtsstraße zum Zocalo ist das Cafe Tacuba,wohl das bekannteste in der Stadt.Geschaft haben wir nicht mehr die schwimmenden Gärten,aber da weiß ich auf Anhieb den Namen nicht. Sicher werdet ihr mehr Zeit mitbringen und Euch nehmen können.
